Saturday’s (2-19-11) snowfall set a record for that date in Juneau, the snow total was a little over 9 inches and we got about 2-3 more inches Sunday night. Today was a beautiful, sunny and clear day. We headed to one of our favorite places, Auke Rec. It’s the same beach pictured in the blog banner. The beach was one of the few places we could walk without wading through knee deep snow. D spotted a bald eagle in a tree and I had to get some video. Enjoy.

Hi Family, Friends and Internet Interlopers- We’re enjoying a wonderful snowy three day weekend. I took this video at the start of a 20 minute walk. It was about 28 degrees Fahrenheit and windy but I loved every minute of it.

Friday we went on a walk on Point Louisa Trail. We walked along the beach, and then took the path in the forest. That’s where we saw this giant mushrooms.

The guys spent yesterday in Skagway Alaska. They walked around town, visited the graveyard and took the train. Early this morning they will board the ferry to Juneau. I hope post some video from the guys of either their trip on the White Pass railroad or the ferry ride. In the meantime, enjoy this promotional video from the Alaska Marine Highway.

Just got phone call from D. They made it Skagway! It’s been a long day of driving and no way to communicate for over 12 hours.

News from the road:

Service stations with premium gasoline are few and far between. D made close call last night deciding not to put regular in R2D2 and ran the risk of running out of fuel.

D and S spent the night in Yorkton, SK. Turns out Yorkton’s main street was flooded Thursday night. Many businesses were closed for clean-up. There was no internet access.

This morning (7-3) they managed to find coffee and Wi-Fi up the road in at Mystic Java in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.

D and his S are preparing for a road trip to Juneau. The trip starts Thursday July 1, 2010 at 8 AM precisely. All manner of items have been collected on our dining room table including: Altoids, Tom Tom, Maps, Guidebooks, Sunscreen, Tent, Sleeping Bag, Laptop, Favorite Coffee Mug, Books on tape, Cooler, Hatchet, Radar detector, Jeans, hiking boots, flashlight, Swiss army knife, Breaking Bad Season 2, camera, sunglasses, binoculars, blue case stuffed with case of CD’s & DVD’s, passport

Today I took a class at the library on starting and maintaining a blog. Our instructor Pam, was knowledgeable and organized. It looks so easy in class but in real life I’d rather think about writing than actually creating a post. My immediate goal is to post weekly even if they are short posts.

Step one: Try not acquire anything new that I don’t want to move to AK

Step two: Sort and distribute current household items.
